One of the greatest basketball coaches of all time, Rick Pitino has returned home to the place he was born, New York, to become the head men’s basketball coach for the Iona Gaels. Iona College is located just outside of New York City. Pitino has been a coach since 1974, more than 45 years. In 2013, he was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame.

 

From 1989-1997, he was the coach of the Kentucky Wildcats winning an NCAA championship in 1996.

 

In 2013, Rick Pitino coached the University of Louisville to an NCAA championship, becoming the only coach to win two NCAA championships with two different colleges.

 

Pitino coached the New York Knicks and the Boston Celtics in the NBA before going to the University of Louisville. He has also coached at Boston University and Providence College.

 

Before becoming the coach at Iona, Pitino coached in Athens, Greece for Panathinaikos. He is also the current national team coach for Greece, Pitino which is attempting to qualify for the 2021 Olympics.
